Ongoing projects

Tamar is committed to ensuring that we continue our relationships with all projects past and present.

Vuyani Pre-Primary School - Cape Town

In 2007 Tamar visited Vuyani Pre-Primary School, building a new Grade R classroom, and jungle gym, and renovating other areas of the school.

NBA Awards

The project was covered by ITN London Tonight and there were several articles in the press – including a full page in the Sunday Times.

Tamar attended the prestigious National Business Awards at the Grosvenor Hotel on Tuesday 13th November and were honoured to collect their 'Highly Commended' certificate for the Corporate Social Responsibility category. The competition was very tough and the judge said he was extremely impressed with the standard of Tamar's entry and the dedication of the whole company to the Tamar goes to Town project.

The Cape Town team returned in 2008 to lay paving around the new classroom and put up fencing around the Grade R play area and garden. The link between TLC and Vuyani was then further strengthened when Tamar returned in 2009 to build bookshelves for all the classrooms in the school, build and fit seesaws and to build a covered area outdoors to provide some shade in the summer.

Shanghai Yue Miao - Institution for the Handicapped

The Yue Miao Institution for the Handicapped is a private, not for profit social welfare institution designed to provide foster care and education for those who have physical and learning disabilities.

The Institution's main purpose is to care for and improve the quality of life of its residents. They do this by providing loving attention, management, education, health provision and training. They are also able to relieve the parents / guardians worries and concerns about their children and enable parents to continue working (and support siblings). The Institution also has a far reaching mission to promote the social welfare for young people with disabilities in China.

At the Institution, they provide different approaches for the range of disabilities the children have. Depending on ability level, the children receive education, rehabilitation, life skills and recreation in an enjoyable environment. This is all geared towards improving the contribution and involvement each child can make to their community.
