Fundraising

Whilst we are always grateful for any donations, we also realise that it's not always possible to donate money. With that in mind we decided to run a series of events and activities where people could donate time or items instead of money.

Events in 2009 included:

TLC 5-a-Side football tournament

Charity Kick about!

For one of our first fundraising events for the Tamar 2009 CSR project and for the Tamar Lifeline Charity (TLC), Barrie Bowles and Lavelle Hurley organised a 5-a-side football tournament, held at the Rocks Lane multi-sports centre in Chiswick. 8 teams played, including a Tamar team, and 3 teams from Oak Lodge, with the team Smart Focus emerging as winners after some extremely close-fought games. The event also included a prize draw for a signed boot donated by Peter Crouch.

The Tamar Pub Quiz

The Tamar Pub Quiz

Following the success of 2008's Pub Quiz, our venerable Quiz Master, Henry Elliss, reprised his role, and was ably assisted by Chloe Temple. The quiz was held at the George the IV on Chiswick High Street was eventually won by the Toxic Terrapins. Some fabulous prizes were also donated for the raffle, making the whole event a huge success and a definite to be repeated in the near future!

Greek night in Cape Town

Greek night in Cape Town

The main fundraising event in Cape Town this year was a Greek night - an extravaganza of food, dancing, music and culture! Friends and family supported the event brilliantly, with a great turnout really making the evening. From a fundraising point of view the event was a huge success, raising the majority of the funds required to run the work completed in Vuyani this year.

TLC Rocks

TLC Rocks!

Keeping with the themes of enjoying ourselves whilst raising money for TLC, Jess McDarren arranged a gig featuring three up and coming bands. A great night was had by all listening to Fade to Midnight, Divided Opinions and Q at the Blag Club in West London. We then danced until the early hours to the DJ, ensuring the event was a big success!

Vuyani Primary beauty contest

Vuyani Primary beauty contest

Our very own Myles Wilson was this year asked to be a judge at the Vuyani Primary Beauty Contest 2009! The event was run by Vuyani School to raise funds and saw children of different age groups competing for the titles of Mr and Mrs Vuyani Junior and Senior. It was extremely well attended, was great fun, and a real honour for us that Myles was invited to be involved!

Team Lunches

One of our fundraising activities in 2009 was inspired by previous years where some members of the team prepared and sold lunch to the rest of the office. This year we ran things on a much grander scale! Over 3 months we asked everyone in the London and Cape Town teams to prepare and serve lunch in the office, providing a great opportunity for everyone at Tamar to get involved (plus partners/children/nannies for those of us who are culinaryily challenged!). Tamar is a very culturally diverse group of people so we were treated to meals from literally around the world!
